According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the 50%-electoral threshold will greatly increase the legitimacy and accountability of mayors and governors before the voters.
"I agree with the Prime Minister's initiative on the 50%-electoral threshold. This is a bold and correct political decision that none of the governments have been able to do before. Mayors in self-governing cities and governors in municipalities will be directly elected with the 50%-electoral threshold which will greatly increase the legitimacy and accountability of mayors and governors before the voters. This is one of the most important steps taken towards democracy and the reasonable management of the country as well as a good and timely precedent of the involvement of citizens in the process and joint work with the government,"- Kaladze said.
