Opposition’s dissatisfaction has significantly reduced after yesterday’s meeting, Parliament Speaker Davit Usupashvili said after the meeting with the non-parliamentary opposition.
According to him, several issues will be improved in the draft submitted to the Parliament.
‘Three or four meetings were held within the framework of the inter-faction group. The parties were dissatisfied over some issues, but after yesterday’s meeting the dissatisfaction has significantly reduced. The final decision will be made in about a week. I am sure several issues will be improved in the draft that has already been submitted to the Parliament. We agreed on that all demands cannot be satisfied. The main thing is that the process should be open’, Usupashvili said.
As for the issue of a barrier, he said that it had already been reviewed. ‘This issue has been reviewed. 70 mayors and governors will be elected through direct elections. Some of them will be elected with 33-% barrier and others with 40-% barrier. There are different practices in this regard in the world. Some countries have 50-% barrier, some have 33% barrier and some countries don’t have the system of barrier at all. There is no any single recipe’, he said.
The non-parliamentary opposition and the Parliament Speaker held a meeting in the Justice House yesterday. The meeting was also attended by MP Zviad Dzidziguri.
