Well done and keep up the good work, says the letter posted on the webpage of the EU Delegation to the US.
‘’EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Füle called on Georgia’s President-elect Giorgi Margvelashvili to bolster the country’s democratic process and “work with the Prime Minister and government, with the Parliament, including opposition parties, and with civil society, in an inclusive and multipartisan spirit with a view to taking forward Georgia’s ambitious program of reforms and institution building.”
As successive EU enlargements have brought the countries of Eastern Europe closer to the EU, and as their security, stability, and prosperity increasingly impact the EU, a new level of relations has taken shape, benefiting both sides. It is based on an incentivized approach that grants increasing privileges to and a closer relationship with those eastern partners whose value system aligns more closely with that of the EU (democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights, good governance, market economy principles, and sustainable development).
Georgia has accelerated its progress in recent years, and at the Eastern Partnership summit November 28-29, it is expected to initial an Association Agreement with the EU that includes a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area component. EU relations with Georgia are based on the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) and the Eastern Partnership. The ENP is primarily a bilateral policy between the EU and each partner country that is enriched and complemented by regional and multilateral cooperation initiatives through the Eastern Partnership’’, the letter says.
