Georgia’s presidential elections were positively assessed in the U.S. House of Representatives. Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that democrat congressman William Keating made an announcement about Georgia’s 27 October elections.
He said that the successfully conducted elections and then peaceful transfer of power reflects a mature democracy in Georgia.
“International organizations, including OSCE representatives assessed the elections as positive and transparent and said that freedom of expression, movement and assembly was protected and candidates had the possibility to conduct unrestricted pre-election campaigns. Successfully conducting the elections and then peaceful transfer of power reflects a mature democracy in Georgia. It confirms that Georgia is ready to initial the association agreement in the framework of the Eastern partnership summit, to be held in Vilnius on 28-29 November. The association agreement, gives new instruments and stimulus to new events, that will serve to strengthen democratic institutions, fight against corruption and ensure supremacy of law”, the American congressman said.
He congratulated Giorgi Margvelashvili on his victory in the presidential elections.
“I congratulate Giorgi Margvelashvili on his victory in the elections and I call on the political parties to cooperate in the interests of Georgia and Georgian people”, William Keating said.
