The head of “Fair Elections” Nino Lomjaria declares that PM Ivanishvili’s and Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani’s statement regarding Giorgi Margvelashvil cannot be interpreted as violation of law.
As Nino Lomjaria explained, on the Election Day, top officials are not entitled to the right to openly name the candidate whom they gave their vote. However, the above ementioned incident will not result in any kind of sanctions.
“As per the existing law manipulation is the activity of appealing to people to support this or that candidate. However, a voter is entitled to the right to openly express his\her sympathy to a particular candidate; I think that this is the wrong practice though; and every single person - high executive officials are not exceptions in this regard - are obliged to restrain from openly declaring whom they gave their vote”, stated Lomjaria.
