Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili and Chairwoman of Central Election Commission Tamar Zhvania have signed a memorandum of understanding.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the newly concluded memorandum of understanding defines additional forms of cooperation and legislative framework. Within the frames of the memorandum sides will also hold trainings and work meeting.
Memorandum was concluded in full compliance with International Foundation of Electoral System (IFES) recommendations.
Election Code implies coordinated cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Central Election Commission in order to ensure safe and peaceful environment on the election day.
“According to the memorandum we reiterate our readiness to contribute to the free expression of will on October 8 when parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held and ensure safe and peaceful environment on the Election Day. By signing the agreement, once again, we agree to cooperate actively for achieving our mutual aim, -to hold elections in safe and peaceful environment on the Election Day. I think that by preserving the established regulations of the legislation, cooperation between Ministry of Internal Affairs and Central Election Commission will be the pre-condition for ensuring peaceful, transparent, and credible elections”, -stated Minister of Internal Affairs.
