The government of Georgia will continue to use all available legal and democratic means to prevent anti-state propaganda and welcomes all initiatives of political and non-political sectors, - Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili thus responded to the election advertising of the Centrists political party.
According to the PM, Georgia faces a historic election that will define our democratic statehood and, therefore, on the road of strengthening the country’s independence it is essential that all agencies, organizations and individuals feel this responsibility.
"I would like to respond to the public concern about the free election advertising on the Public Broadcaster that contained anti-state calls. In this regard I would like to note: 1. Today Georgia faces historic elections that will define our democratic statehood and, therefore, on the road of strengthening the country’s independence it is essential that all agencies, organizations and individuals feel this responsibility. 2. The government has done its best in recent years to ensure independence of the media, but independence does not mean irresponsibility. The biggest responsibility lies with the media in terms of preventing circulation of anti-state information. We welcome the decision of the Public Broadcaster to suspend the election campaign directed against the sovereignty and statehood. We also call on all other media outlets to try as much as possible not to become a victim of propaganda. In the pre-election period we must pay special attention to the increased anti-state propaganda. 3. The government will continue to use all available legal and democratic means to prevent anti-state propaganda and welcomes initiatives of all non-political and political sectors,"- the PM noted.
In the election advertising the party of Lado Bedukadze and Nikoloz Khachishvili promised voters 400-GEL Russian pensions, legalization of Russian troops in Georgia and dual citizenship with Russia.
