The ex-president of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze has died. His relatives confirmed this information.
Shevardnadze, died today at the age of 86.
Eduard Shevardnadze was born on January 25, 1925 in Village Mamati, of the Lanchkhuti district. In 1959 he graduated from Kutaisi A.Tsulukidze Institute in absentia. He was the first secretary of the Central Committee in 1972-1985. He was the President of Georgia from 1995-2003. He left office as a result of the Rose Revolution.
Eduard Shevardnadze received 74% of the vote in November, 1995. On April 9, 2000, he was re-elected with 82% of the vote. Eduard Shevardnadze was attacked three times, including in Abkhazia, 1992, in front of the Parliament building in 1995 and on the way to his residence – in 1998.
