According to the law adopted by us, neither me, nor Tamar Zhvania are allowed to know the run-off date, - the Speaker of the Parliament Davit Usupashvil stated with Imedi TV, on the program ‘’Time for Politics’’.
According to Usupashvili, Gigi Ugulava’s statement in relation to announcing the run-off date, represents speculation.
‘’Let us, as reasonable civilians not follow speculations, the run-off will be determined once the first-round results are summarized. The commission will sum up results and announce the date of the run-off. This is a short and concrete answer. All the rest is speculation and an attempt to act as if there is some problem and something is happening. According to the law adopted by us, neither me, nor Tamar Zhvania are allowed to know the run-off day at the moment. Unfortunately, Gigi Ugulava still manages to use the precious ten minutes of airtime,’’ – Usupashvili said.
As Gigi Ugulava, mayor of Tbilisi with suspended authority, stated at a briefing, ‘’United National Movement’’ has an absolutely logical and legitimate demand for the Central Election Commission about announcing the run-off date as soon as possible.
‘’As far as we know, the government put pressure on Tamar Zhvania. The government wanted to hold elections on the 12 of July, which absolutely contradicts all rules and procedures. Many subjects have complaints filed in the Court and repeated calculation is under way; correspondingly, it is impossible to appoint the run-off earlier than 12 July,’’ – Ugulava said.
